about

This album is an accompaniment to the ethnographic film, Vivah Samskara: Bhojpuri Wedding Rites & Folk Songs. www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbpoUC71iMM

Vivah Samskara is a documentary film about the folk songs that are sung by women during the Hindu wedding sacrament. It is a ceremony-wise musical annotation of a typical Bhojpuri wedding that is spread over 5 days. The documentary contains a first hand description of Bhojpuri wedding rites and folk songs from the vantage point of a Brahmin family residing in Bhadwar village of Bihar. The film is a part of a project on preservation of the Bhojpuri folk music in collaboration with the Center for Social Entrepreneurship, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (Mumbai).

The film was screened at:
- Student Ethnographic Film Festival, Zadar, Croatia in May 2015.
- Die Brücke - Das Internationale Zentrum der Universität Münster, Germany in January 2015.
- Institute of Musicology, University of Münster, Germany in November 2014.
- International seminar on Indian Feminism, Ghazipur (U.P), India in September 2014.
